GigaStax Rugged moves to made-to-order in September 2027. Compare alternatives, integration requirements and options for existing designs.

Starting in September 2027, GigaStax Rugged will move out of our standard product range and become available on a made-to-order basis. We’re announcing this in advance to give customers time to plan future production and evaluate alternatives.

Since launching GigaStax, we’ve expanded our range with products offering higher port counts, 10G connectivity and more advanced network management. We’re shifting our development and support focus towards those platforms while keeping GigaStax available for customers with existing designs.

The right migration path depends on your port requirements, baseboard design and whether your application needs unmanaged switching, managed switching or Layer 3 routing. None of the options below is a drop-in replacement.

UbiSwitch

  • Eight 1GBASE-T ports and three 10GBASE-R interfaces.

  • Stackable module with onboard firmware for VLANs, link aggregation and port management through a UART command-line interface.

  • Uses a different header from GigaStax and requires Ethernet magnetics on the baseboard.

  • A strong option for managed switching, with a baseboard redesign required.

  • Eight Gigabit Ethernet ports and two 10G-capable interfaces.

  • Integrated Ethernet magnetics in a compact, stackable module.

  • Runs OpenWRT by default, supporting Layer 3 routing and network management.

  • Planned for early 2027.

  • Suited to designs that need integrated magnetics and routing, with changes to the carrier-board interface.

  • Requires review of carrier-board connections, mechanical fit, power and cooling.

  • Suited to small networks that do not need configurable VLANs or routing.

Before choosing a replacement, review the number and type of Ethernet interfaces required, magnetics and isolation requirements, connector pinouts, available space, power consumption and operating environment. Any management features used in the existing design should also be checked against the replacement’s supported software.

Continuing with GigaStax Rugged

If GigaStax is already built into your design, we know changing boards can be a pain. You’ll still be able to order it after September 2027. The price will be higher and there’ll be a minimum order quantity, but we wanted to keep it available for customers who rely on it. Just let us know how many you’re likely to need and when, and we can work through the details together.
